  • ~ WE GATHER IN GOD’S NAME ~

– Greeting and Announcements

  • Call to Worship: (Responsively)
  • Pastor: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
  • People: Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall in the heart
  • of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
  • Pastor: Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
  • People:He lifts His voice, the earth melts.
  • Pastor: The Almighty is with us;
  • People: The God of Jacob is our fortress. Amen. (Adapted from Psalm 46)
  • ~ WE OFFER OUR ADORATION & CONFESSION ~

  • Prayer of Adoration
  • Prayer of Confession (Unison)
  • We have sinned against you, God. We have made the Church more about making and hoarding money than about helping the needy. We place other things before you, construct idols, ignore your holy day, full of excuses. We are disrespectful toward our loved ones. We hurt, cheat on, steal from, and lie about each other. We get envious because other people have what we want. Through Jesus Christ your Son we now confess those things which weigh heaviest on our hearts (silent confession of sin . . .) Lord, hear our prayers. Amen.
  • Words of Assurance
  • ~ WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD ~
  • Prayer for Illumination

– Sermon: “The Cross: Understanding God’s Purpose”

~ A moment for silent reflection and meditation will follow the sermon ~

  • Affirmation of Faith – “The Apostle’s Creed”
  • I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The holy catholic church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the Body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.
