October 2018 Announcements

elder & greeter for the month:  Ann Davey

Pastor Buddy will begin his much-anticipated Sabbatical on September 30 through October 28. He and Gayle will tour Scotland September 30 through October 12. He plans on visiting the Edinburgh Theological Seminary and Library while visiting various Presbyterian kirks along the tour. Upon returning home, he will use that time to study and write while engaging in spiritual refection and prayer. In November he will present the results of his sabbatical to the congregation.

The Men of the Church will gather Wednesday for their men’s Breakfast, October 3 at 8:00 AM at Rancher’s Steak House. All are welcome – bring a friend/neighbor.

The SESSION will meet at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 3 in the Fellowship Hall.

The Lord’s Supper will be observed October 7 during the morning’s worship service. All who have joined with Jesus Christ through their baptism as well as children who have been instructed by their parents are welcome to participate.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN will meet at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 9, in the Fellowship Hall for the Bible study and lunch (location TBD). All ladies are welcome.

The ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING will convene October 21 following the worship service for the purpose of electing members of the Class of 2021 to the Session and the Nominating Committee for 2019. Other business will be discussed so it is important for all members of First Church to be present.

Everyone is invited to the monthly CHURCH DINNER, Sunday, October 21 immediately following the worship service. Please join us for great food and warm fellowship. Bring a neighbor.

The Ladies’ Evening Bible Study will meet October 17 at 7:00 P.M. Bring a friend or neighbor.

FALL CLEANUP. Our beautiful church and grounds need a good spruce up prior to the winter season. If you are able to help, please join us Saturday, November 3 at 8:30 AM, with your gardening tools and cleaning materials. If you are not able to work, then come anyway and provide moral support.

Special worship service – Veteran’s Day: The worship service on November 11 will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I and all our veterans from various wars and conflicts since that time. Our goal is to recognize our veterans by name, rank, service, and war/conflict. If you know of a veteran that will be in attendance that day please let Elder Gail Johnson or Pastor Buddy know.

Plans for the new CHURCH DIRECTORY are underway and Will Kacy will be taking pictures on October 14 and October 21.  Please plan to stay after the service to get your pictures taken.

Look at the plaque on the wall in the foyer.  Sheila Necessary has put back the EGG TOSS PLAQUE after finally taking in to get the engraving done for this year’s Egg Toss Tournament.  Zonnell Haynes, owner of Haynes Jewelers, once again did the 2018 Egg Toss Plaque engraving at no charge.  His generosity is greatly appreciated.  The 2018 Egg Toss Winners were:

Adult:  Garrett & Emily Johnson                          Youth:  Case Flippen & Colton Cummings

The Sign-up sheet for the Monthly Church Dinner is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway.  Please sign up to host one of these lunches.
